The sins were great when I did HFFF runs. Other than that I never used them.
Never used MOX so far.

I make all my sin heroes Critical Barrage. Works pretty well.
I don't use melee heroes much. Or Morgahn. Or Pyre. Or Ogden unless I'm using multi-LOLRAY. I only use rit heroes during defensive missions (namely Dzagonur Bastion and Eternal Grove), and then it's usually Xandra (Hell, only two characters even have Razah...)
Tahlkora is pretty much my most-used hero, with Gwen (serving as makeshift elementalist) trailing behind. Margrid, Livia, Zenmai, and the real elementalists come next.

Well, for me, I use the holy necro trinity a lot, but in some situations I like to use a protter monk (Tahlkora), a nuker (Vekk) and an interrupter (Jin).
Depending on the gear I've equipped them with on my several characters, I might go for Dunkoro/Ogden, Zhed/Sousuke and Margrid/Pyre.
Heroes I never or very rarely use are: Anton, Zenmai, MOX, Goren, Koss, Jora, Kahmu, Melonni, Razah, Norgu.
I only use them if I am playing a new character that has just unlocked MOX, Jora, Ogden, because I simply don't have much choice in the beginning.
My assassin likes taking Jora, Koss and Goren along on runs, just for fun, they spam "charge!" very nicely. It's fun to see who lives longest :P
Sometimes a particular mission might call for a lesser used hero with a particular build, but since the necro builds are just so damn usefull/practical, the rest simply gets neglected more, especially the melee heroes.

I never/rarely use:
- The sins. I don't even want to consider using them.
- Mox. I like using melonni at times but mox is just annoyingly big, screwing up my sight way too much.
- Zhed. Dood is suicidal or something.
- Rits. Lolwut.
- Goren and jora. While I use koss for entertainment values, goren is just plain useless, as is jora.
- Monk heroes only see play in 600/smites

I bring a ranger hero pretty frequently. Which one is immaterial. I have to say having a BHA w/ pet, poisonous bite, companionship throw dirt, and a second interrupt is always nice to have.
But I have to aggree, I never Warrior, Derv, or Sin heroes.

When I need to bring a Hero of a certain profession, I bring female ones. I only add male ones when there are no males or I need more than one of the same profession.

Most used : Tahlkora. She's my bonder for 600ing, so sees most daylight.
The 3 eles, generally as Rodg-spam or something else that won't ever have energy problems.
Dunk, if i can't heal enough on my own
The necros, for obvious Discord or MM duties.
Gwen, Pyre or Jin for interrupts.
The rest hardly gets playtime, because :
- I don't have much rits, no experience with the class
- Melee tend to rush into everything, making sure you aggro everything in the wide surroundings. Not smart in HM.
- Paragon? Perhaps an imbagon, but then again, why? What does he/she do that can't be done with other heroes?

Wait... what?
Imbagons provide the best defensive capabilities in the game. Thats what they can do that other cant.
But more importantly... Hero's cant use Save Yourselves. So you couldnt use it anyway.
Most light of day my pasragon see's is tjhrowing in a fallback/incoming spammer as support when I run someplace.

Heroes never used:
- Goren and Jora;
- Mox and Kahmu;
- Anton and Zenmai;
- Norgu;
- Jin and Pyre;
- Sousuke and Vekk;
- Gwen for fevered dreams or some other gimmick.
Heroes occasionally used:
- Ogden;
- Koss (as earth shaker) and Melloni (as order support);
- Zhed (As snared or ER monk);
- Rits.
Heroes used most of the time:
- Necros;
- Margrid for BHA;
- Paras for they great Deep wounds, fall back, daze, hex removal, ability to slot cry of frustration, stand your ground (dunno why people dislike them - one of the best overall heroes and non retarded AI);
- Tahlkora and Dunkoro.

The reason I wouldn't bring one of the Warrior heroes with an easy bar is because Devona is overpowered.

I see several people dislike the melee heroes. Is that people who fill that role themselves?
Being a necro I use Jora a lot. I flag her between myself and the enemy mob so they will rush at her when they see her. That drags them away from other mobs and usually keep her in healing distance, plus makes it able for casters to cast on enemies. It usually works fine.
But this is about least used heroes, my list is:
The asasins, for reasons stated above
Goren and Koss since I prefer Jora.
Norgu...since I prefer Gwen for disrupt
Ogden and tahlkora since i normaly use dunk and MoW for monks.
I also rarely use paras, or Sousake, my favo nuker is Zhed. I love when he shouts Imprudent two-legs at everything from spiders to wurms

That Jora's role can be handled easily by any other hero which has Protective Spirit cast on him. And that hero can usually do more than running headlessly around desperately trying to output at least 10% of damage that human would.
Being necromancer, you have plenty of tools to forgo this tactic completely (from enfeebling blood in curses to having whole line dedicated to raining (typo, but i like notion of "its raining minions, halelujah!") army of disposable meat shields).
And any class cam bring ebon vanguard assassin support to create mr. redshirt as they need so.
---
I suggest trying paragon or ranger instead of Jora if you want to continue your pseudo tank'n'spank. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I rarely use the derv and sin heroes, warrior heroes are used slightly more due to my use of goren when devona is unavailable or I simply want more kd.
Otherwise, para heroes are down there too, although I've found that a SF ele + "They're on Fire!" is great for party wide protection, it's no imbagon but 1/3 less damage nearly constantly is still pretty sexy.

Never use Khamu.
he is such a lame dervish
MOX is way better
for some reason I think Mox does a better job at killing than Khamu does.

I base each hero on a specific attribute. So Jora = sword, Koss = axe, Goren = hammer, Vekk = fire, Sousuke = earth...
Then, when I go out on a mission or vanquish, all I think about is what profession & attribute I need. Toss in the appropriate heroes, and go...
As for non-humans toons, I prefer them. Not so much for their charisma and charm, but for the simple fact that they don't spread disease between each other, since they are all different races. Especially useful in the swampy, undead infested regions of Tyria!
That said, I tend to stay away from Olias (and his butt crack armor), Mox (because robots don't belong in *any* fantasy game), and Pyre (just because he has crappy looking armor).
